Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 19, 2026
Bernt ("we", "our", "us") operates the Bernt mobile application. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (hashed, never stored in plain text).
Kitchen data. Pantry items, recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists you create within the app. This data is necessary to provide the service.
Usage data. We track aggregate usage counts (e.g., number of AI requests) to enforce service limits.
Website analytics. When you visit bernt.app, we record the page you viewed and whether you clicked a download link. This uses no cookies, no local storage, and no fingerprinting — nothing is stored on your device, and nothing follows you to other sites. We store only coarse information: the page path, the site that referred you, campaign tags from the link you followed, and broad device, browser, and operating system categories (never version numbers).
To count returning visitors within a single day without identifying anyone, we compute a one-way hash of your IP address and browser using a secret key that is regenerated every day and permanently deleted when the day ends. Once that key is deleted the hash cannot be linked back to you by anyone, including us. Your IP address and browser string are used only to compute this hash and are discarded within the same request — they are never stored in the analytics data or in our logs. Website analytics data contains no account, name, or email information and is never connected to your Bernt account. It is retained for 400 days.
We honor the Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser sends it, we record nothing at all about your visit. Automated traffic from bots and crawlers is discarded rather than recorded.
Error logs. When something goes wrong, we log the error along with the request path and IP address to diagnose issues. These logs are retained for 30 days.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the Bernt service
- To generate recipes and meal plans using AI based on your pantry
- To send transactional emails (e.g., email verification)
- To diagnose errors and improve reliability
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate Bernt:
- Anthropic (Claude) — AI recipe and meal plan generation. Your pantry items and prompts are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Apple — In-app purchases and subscriptions via the App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never receive or store your payment card details. See Apple's privacy policy.
- Resend — Transactional email delivery (verification emails). See Resend's privacy policy.
- Turso — Database hosting. Your data is stored in Turso's infrastructure. See Turso's privacy policy.
Data Retention
Your account and kitchen data are retained for as long as your account is active. Error logs are retained for 30 days. Website analytics data is retained for 400 days, and the daily key used to compute visitor hashes is deleted every day. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed. Website analytics data holds nothing that identifies you, so there is nothing in it to remove.
Your Rights
- Delete your account. You can delete your account and all associated data from the Account tab in the app at any time.
- Access your data. All your data (pantry, recipes, meal plans) is visible within the app.
- Contact us. For any privacy-related requests, email usingai.app@gmail.com.
Children's Privacy
Bernt is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above.
